Involvement with Takatō Kohigan-zakura Cherry Trees

SDGs icon 15 SDGs icon 16 SDGs icon 17

We received a donation of four Takatō Kohigan-zakura cherry trees from Ina City and held a commemorative tree-planting ceremony when they were planted on our premises. At our research facility, we carefully nurture these cherry trees, which are a symbol of Ina City, and host an annual spring event, the “Cherry Blossom Appreciation Society.”
Through interactions with employees, their families, and members of the local community, we will continue to contribute to regional harmony and sustainable development.

The MBL dance team participated in the citizen dance at the Ina Festival as a citizen’s dance team. The following morning, the team also took part in a volunteer cleanup activity organized by Ina City. Many employees joined early in the morning to collect trash left from the fireworks at the Ina Festival.

Wild Bird Conservation Activities

As part of our SDGs initiatives, MBL has entered into a Biodiversity Conservation Partnership Agreement with Nagano Prefecture and the Buppōsō Conservation Society. Through this partnership, we support conservation activities for the Buppōsō (Oriental Dollarbird). Our activities include assisting with the installation of nesting boxes and observing their placement. During bird-watching and observation events organized by the conservation society, participants have had opportunities to observe parent birds feeding their chicks at the nesting boxes.

Community Activities in the Tera Area

In cooperation with local residents, we engage in a wide range of community contribution activities, including environmental maintenance and the promotion of cultural and sports exchanges. These activities include flower planting and weeding at the Terazaka flower beds, supporting recycling drives at Tera Elementary School, participating in athletic events in the Shimotera area, and organizing social gatherings. Through these initiatives, we will continue to work closely with the community and strengthen local collaboration.

Other Initiatives for the Local Community and Environment

Tenryu River System Environmental Picnic

In May 2025, we participated in the Tenryu River System Environment Picnic hosted by the Nagano Industrial Promotion Organization, a public interest incorporated foundation, and picked up trash along the Tenryu River. The larger-than-expected amount of trash, especially plastic products, made us think again about the trash problem.

The employees and their families based in Tsukuba and Tokyo participated in a seedling-planting event held at the MBL Farm in Tsukuba. Participation in Seibu Railway's "Environmental Activities and Community Contribution Activities Project"

SDGs icon 15 SDGs icon 17

We participated in a tour and experience of local environmental conservation activities and environmental resources promoted by the local government in the Chichibu area.
The tour included a visit to a winery that produces Chichibu wine and assisted with farm work, and planting 1,800 lawn cherry seedlings at Hitsujiyama Park. On the return trip on the sightseeing train, we had a dinner using local ingredients, and a nutrition education instructor helped us to deepen our understanding of local agricultural products and food culture.
