Background DEAH (Asp-Glu-Ala-His) box polypeptide 36 (DHX36), also known as RHAU or G4R1, is an RNA helicase that binds and unwinds DNA/RNA G-quadruplexes structure. DHX36 is involved in genomic stability, ARE-mediated mRNA decay (AMD), localization and miRNA-mediated translational regulation. DHX36 predominantly presents in nucleus, but forms stress granule in cytoplasm under cellular stress conditions. DHX36 also functions as a DNA/RNA viral sensor in host innate immune response. DHX36 promotes RIG-I signaling through antiviral stress granule formation and activation of dsRNA-dependent protein kinase.
