Background | Product description: Human PDGFb, platelet derived growth factor, is a dimeric protein. It can form homodimers of PDGFb or heterodimers with PDGFa. It is involved in the regulation of embryonic development, cell proliferation, cell migration, survival and chemotaxis. Potent mitogen for cells of mesenchymal origin. Required for normal proliferation and recruitment of pericytes and vascular smooth muscle cells in the central nervous system, skin, lung, heart and placenta. Required for normal blood vessel development, and for normal development of kidney glomeruli. Plays an important role in wound healing. Mutations in PDGFb are associated with meningioma. Reciprocal translocations between chromosomes 22 and 7, at sites where this gene and that for COL1A1 are located, are associated with a particular type of skin tumor called dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans resulting from unregulated expression of growth factor. Residues 21-211 of human PDGFb were cloned, the protein was over-expressed in HEK293EBNA1 cells and was purified to homogeneity. The calculated molecular weight of monomeric recombinant human PDGFb after propeptide removal is 15.7 kDa and 31.4 kDa for the dimeric form. The protein contains a C-terminal hexahistidine tag.
