Background | Autophagy is a well-known degradation system, induced by nutrient starvation, in which cytoplasmic components and organelles are digested via vacuoles/lysosomes.The fungus Atg8, a homologue of yeast Atg8 (Aut7/Apg8), localizes to autophagosomal membranes after post-translational modifications. The C-terminal region of pro-Atg8 is cleaved immediately following synthesis by Atg4 to yield a cytosolic form, Atg8. A subpopulation of Atg8 is further converted to an autophagosome-associating form, Atg8-PE. This antibody can detect pro-Atg8, Atg8 and Atg8-PE. | |
