Background	マウスJumonjiファミリー分子の一つであるJmjd1cは2種類のバリアントが存在し、一つはExon1と2から転写されるLong valiant (282 kDa)であり、もう一つはExon1Bから転写されるShort valiant (261 kDa)である。Jmjd1cはほぼすべての臓器に発現しているが、精巣だけでこの2種類のバリアントが見られることから精巣で特徴的な発現を示す。Jmjd1c^-/-マウスでは加齢に伴い未分化精原細胞数の著しい減少とアポトーシスの増加が確認された。Jmjd1cは雄の減数分裂の生殖細胞の細胞死を抑制して精子形成の維持に必須であることが示唆されている。またJmjCドメインを持つJumonjiファミリー分子の中で、Jmjd1a,Jmjd1bはヒストン脱メチル化活性を持つことが報告されているが、Jmjd1cは活性中心のアミノ酸配列が異なることから、ヒストン以外のタンパク質をターゲットとしていると報告されている。
